A specialist SEN school for secondary aged boys with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs

KS3
During Key Stage 3 pupils develop a range of skills including sculpting, ceramics, sketching, glassware and painting. These areas will be incorporated in to different half termly projects, looking into the world of Pop Art and being inspired by artists like Andy Warhol to taking inspirations from architect alike Antoni Gaudi into their own sculptures. Art in LWS is very practical and infuses old and new taking inspiration from classical artist and new social media sensations like Marcello Barenghi who bring sketching to life.
In addition to this, pupils will explore heritage and culture through their art work during projects alike Mexico’s Day of the Dead Festival and celebrating and taking inspiration from art and music from the vibrancy of South Africa and their Art Festivals.
Year 9 pupils will have the option to start their Art GCSE Qualifications early.
KS4
All students at LWS will have the opportunity to work towards either of the two Art and Design GCSE qualification listed below. Both courses promote creative and exciting experiences that incorporate pupils personal interests. Pupils can actively engage in a range of projects that continue to develop their skills sets allowing for them to use their imagination and intuition to create contemporary projects using a wide range of materials.
Art and Design Full Course GCSE: This course allows for pupils to develop their skills sets further in a range of projects designed for those with an avid interest in Art and Design.
The consists of;

  • More than one project completed in KS4
  • A 10 hour practical art exam

 
Art and Design Short Course GCSE: This course is accessible to pupils of different abilities and allows for pupils to further skills allowing more time on each project.
The consists of;

  • One project
  • A 10 hour practical art exam
