A specialist SEN school for secondary aged boys with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs

KS3
Throughout Key Stage 3 pupils use a range of devices including Computers, IPads, Programming Robots and circuits. Through this variety pupils’ gain confidence in coding and programming different devices such as the Recon Rovers and legobots. Pupils also gain insight into how computers work which includes dissembling and resembling devices and learn to purposefully collect a range of data including photos and audio in learning digital manipulation. Its practical nature and variety ensures its accessible to all our pupils with an aim to ensure all pupils are responsible, competent, confident and creative users in Information and Computing Technology. In years 7 and 8 pupils study different topics each half term building Computing Skills in the following areas.

  • Computer Programming
  • Computer Systems and Communication
  • Technology and Internet Safety
  • Collecting and analysing data

Year 9 pupils will have the option to start their Computer Science qualifications.
KS4
All students at LWS will have the opportunity to work towards Entry Level qualifications in Computer Science. These qualifications are made up of three strands.

  • Computer Systems: Hardware, software, storage and memory
  • Computer Thinking, Algorithms and Coding
  • Programming 

This is a hands-on course which allows students to discover how computing technology works, how it continues to develop as well as evolving transferable and adaptable skills to utilise in other subjects and everyday life. It is very practical with variety to engage and inspire each pupil and qualifications vary from Entry Level 1 to 3 depending of their ability and engagement in the three strands above.
