A specialist SEN school for secondary aged boys with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs

Pupil Premium

The pupil premium was introduced in April 2011 and is allocated to schools to work with students who have been registered for free school meals at any point in the last six years (known as ‘Ever 6 FSM’).

Schools also receive additional funding for children who are ‘looked after’ and in a care placement. Students of service personnel also receive a discrete fund. The additional funding aims to support strategies which may help to improve educational outcomes. According to national statistics identified students, have traditionally made less progress and achieved less than their peers. The aim of the funding is to narrow this gap.

Year 7 Literacy and Numeracy Catch-up Premium

LWS is allocated a funding amount per Year 7 student, who has not gained a Level 4 by the end of KS2 in English and/or Maths. This funding is allocated on a termly basis, which limits our capacity to allocate targeted intervention, we therefore use the funding to top-up current strategy. In the context of our student’s complex needs the money is fairly minimal and limits our capacity to make a bespoke spend on each student. We use the additional funding to support catch-up reading and numeracy strategies and purchase resources. Funding is also directed to support the training of Specialist Support Staff in the delivery of intervention strategies for Year 7 and other Year groups. For further details follow the link on pupil premium above for detailed analysis of the targeted fund.
