A specialist SEN school for secondary aged boys with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs

Year 9,10 and 11 – Same day after-school detention strategy

Just a quick not to inform all parents and carers of a new strategy to support students thinking, when removing themselves from lessons.
We offer plenty of opportunities for students to discuss concerns and behaviour during the day and to reach a compromise – however we have a few students who still refuse to follow direction or attempt to reason with staff. If students accumulate more than 2 zero point scores for their lessons, which may come from refusing to engage in learning or leaving lessons without permission, they will have an immediate after-school put into place. Students who do not follow the ‘anti-smoking’ policy will also serve an immediate after-school.
Parents and carers will be informed if a student requires an immediate after-school detention. The expectation will be for the student to make their own way home (parents/carers can collect if they wish). Transport money/passes and a planned route home will be provided, but the taxi will be cancelled for that day. We have 2 bus stations near us and a train station.
Thank you for supporting us in preparing our students/your son for the real-world.
